Craniosacral therapy
We live in a time when many people experience almost constant stress, often without the opportunity to truly switch off and rest. In our practice, we see that clients' bodies are chronically overloaded, to the point where they gradually lose the ability to consciously self-regulate. The body then responds with fatigue, tension, imbalance, and frequently, over time, with illness.
Craniosacral therapy offers a gentle and effective response to this state. It creates a safe space where the body can pause, slow down, and release deeply held tension. During a session, the nervous system is given the opportunity to settle, allowing the body to restore its natural balance and reconnect with a sense of safety, acceptance, and deep inner calm.
For many people, craniosacral therapy is the first experience in a long time where their body is no longer in constant alert mode and can finally relax. What happens during a session is often difficult to describe in words, yet clients frequently report a feeling of relief, lightness, and profound calm. As tension gradually softens, challenges that once felt overwhelming begin to feel more manageable, and there is a renewed sense of capacity to meet everyday life.
Many clients describe a sense of easier breathing—not only physically, but emotionally as well—as if there is more space both in the body and within themselves.
At Sol da Vida Center in Ostrava, craniosacral therapy is provided by Kateřina Šertlová, a graduate of a one-year experiential training in Craniosacral Neurobalance. Her approach is based on biodynamic craniosacral therapy and incorporates elements of applied polyvagal theory, supporting the body's innate ability to regulate, heal, and return to balance.
What is Cranio Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is best experienced firsthand, as each person's experience is highly individual. While every session is unique, craniosacral therapy can generally be described as:
A very gentle, hands-on therapeutic method that uses light, non-invasive touch.
Carried out in a calm and safe environment, allowing the body and nervous system to relax.
- Working with the body's natural ability to regenerate and return to balance.
Creating space for the release of tension caused by stress and overload, while supporting a shift of the nervous system into a state of safety.
Only when a person feels safe (which is not the same as being objectively safe) can restoration, growth, and healing occur on many levels.
Respecting the individual needs of each client.
Never forcing the body, but gently supporting its own self-regulatory processes.
In essence, during therapy we explore whether the body is flexible and alive—whether everything within it is moving as it should. When we notice areas of stagnation, where tissues feel restricted or fluids are not flowing freely, our role is to gently reawaken movement and vitality.
You might imagine a mountain stream, where water flows freely—bubbling, rushing, renewing itself. When something falls into the stream and blocks its flow, a dam is created. Water builds up on one side, while on the other side it barely moves at all. Debris accumulates, the water becomes dense and stagnant. The same can happen within the body. The role of craniosacral therapy is to gently dissolve these internal "dams," to clear stagnant pools and allow fresh, living "water" to flow again.
In doing so, we help release both physical and mental pain, while restoring the body's natural strength and its innate capacity for self-healing.
How it can help?

Craniosacral therapy can be supportive in addressing physical, mental, and emotional challenges. In our practice, we find that a holistic approach works best. We primarily use bioresonance for specific physical concerns, while craniosacral therapy is especially recommended in cases of long-term overload, chronic fatigue, and psychological or emotional distress.
Craniosacral therapy is a suitable method for adults, children, and sensitive individuals (for whom it has proven to be particularly beneficial in our experience 🙂). As a gentle approach, it has relatively few contraindications. It is not suitable in acute, life-threatening conditions. In cases of serious illness—including psychiatric conditions, epilepsy, or oncological diseases—please inform us in advance. During pregnancy, craniosacral therapy is, on the contrary, warmly recommended after the first trimester.
Specifically, craniosacral therapy may be supportive in the following areas:
On a mental and emotional level:
-
Long-term stress, chronic fatigue, and overload
-
Inner restlessness, anxiety, panic attacks, and depression
-
Sleep difficulties
-
Feelings of overwhelm and loss of energy
-
Challenging life periods or major life changes
-
Trauma support
-
Regulation of the autonomic nervous system – shifting into a state of safety
On a physical level:
-
Musculoskeletal pain
-
Headaches and migraines
-
Support for recovery after injuries
-
Balancing the immune and hormonal systems
-
Regulation of the menstrual cycle and pelvic-related concerns
…and many more.
How a Cranio Session Works?

The entire therapy takes place in a safe and respectful environment, where each person is seen, accepted, and supported.
-
At the beginning of our session, we have a conversation, giving the client the opportunity to share anything that feels important—or nothing at all, if they prefer.
-
After that, we move to the treatment table, where the client lies down, ideally wearing comfortable clothing that does not restrict or bind.
-
The therapy itself is performed lying down, using the therapist's gentle touch. The process is continuously communicated to the client. They can speak at any time or choose to turn their attention inward and focus on their body.
-
Each session is highly individual and adapted to the client's specific needs.
-
I work using the biodynamic method, which means that during therapy I listen with my hands to the body's system, creating safety, time, and space for the client's body to address whatever it has the energy and capacity for in that moment.
-
Nothing is forced or rushed—we respect the body's natural rhythm and create a safe space for change.
-
Does this sound too "spiritual"? Don't worry—it's not. While we trust in the deep, natural wisdom of the human body, we also bring solid knowledge of anatomy and nervous system regulation, so our touch is usually highly structured and intentional.
hening the healthy ones. The goal is to restore balance in the body and its natural ability to heal itself. This approach can help even where conventional methods reach their limits.
